Empathy – Seeing the world from your partner’s perspective.
Seeing the world from your partner’s perspective. “What does the situation, problem, or event look or feel like from my partner’s perspective? How is his or her perception different from mine?” Successful and effective communication requires:
- Make “I” statements, not “you” statements
- Practice refelctive listening
- Understand and accept the differences between men and woman
- Apologize when necessary
- Power down and get offline
- Communicate through touch
Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; James 1:19
Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. Ephesians 4:29
Empathy is the toughest work of building a strong marriage. It takes a conscious effort to empathize.
